Planners: Your child has been given a planner. In it they will write their homework for the week and will take it home each night. It should be signed by a parent each night. If your child gets a warning "strike" in class (excessive talking, disruptive behaviors, disobeying classroom/school rules, etc), they will mark an X in their planner. Three strikes in one day will result in a student alert. You may write me notes in the planner as needed and I may write some for you as well.
Blue tickets: We will be using blue tickets as our class reward system. Blue tickets will be given for exemplary behavior or actions, then put into a drawing to win prizes each week.
Homework: Homework will be given Monday-Thursday nights. In addition to nightly reading, your child will have math and/or reading homework. All homework assignments will be written in your child's planner and will be due the following day, unless otherwise noted.
New this year: All media books must be returned to the media center (we will send them down as a class each day) before our media day (F days) in order to be able to check out a new book on our media day.
The Scholastic Book Order is now online. It is a great way to buy books for your child at low prices. These orders earn points for me which then gets more books for our classroom! Go to scholastic.com/readingclub and use code GL64W if you would like to order. You may also send in your order to me and pay with a check payable to Scholastic Reading Club.
Your child should read for 20 minutes each night. Your child may check out a book from my classroom and from the media center on B days. You may also use books from home or from the public library. Be sure to sign he yellow reading log each night. If your child reads more than one book per night, that is great! But, please only write one book and use one line.
The MPT dress code states that flip flops, short shorts, and shirts or dresses with spaghetti straps are not allowed. I would prefer that your child wear sneakers or a rubber sole shoe everyday. We do lots of running and playing and those shoes help keep us safe.
Ways to ask your child "What did you do in school today?"
1. Tell me about the best thing that happened at school today.
2. Tell me something that made you laugh today.
3. If I called Ms. Leipzig tonight, what would she tell me about you?
4. How did you help somebody today?
5. How were you proactive today?
6. When were you the happiest today?
7.How were you a friend today?
8. How were you kind today?
We will have a snack time each day. Please bring one healthy snack from home. All snacks should be in a disposable package or baggie and should have your child's name on it. It should not be in your child's lunch box.
You child will go home each day by the way we discussed. If you have a change in transportation, please send me a note or email me and call the office before 2:30.
We love to celebrate birthdays! Outside food and treats may not be brought in, but goodies may be ordered from the cafeteria. Contact Pam Edwards in the cafeteria with questions or orders. The order form can be found on the MPT website. Birthdays will be celebrated at lunchtime.
